The official Global Energy Prize award ceremony took place today on the 19th of June in St. Petersburg /Russia/ during the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. This year’s prize was awarded to Shuji Nakamura -professor of the University of California /USA/ and B. Jayant Baliga - Professor of North Carolina University /USA/. The revolutionary inventions of two scientists changed the modern energy sphere and brought enormous commercial effect.
The Global Energy Prize laureate’s press-conference was held today, on June, 18th within the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum platform. Despite of the significant oil price drop and consequent cutting of energy resources saving, energy consumption reduction should remain one of the priority tasks of global society, the scientists believe.
Two days prior to the GEP Award Ceremony the 2015 Global Energy Prize laureates –Jayant Baliga and Shuji Nakamura – spoke with the journalists of St. Petersburg for the first time. Within the press-conference on innovations in energy-efficiency and energy-saving in Russia they have presented their revolutionary technologies that had changed modern energy field and resulted in incredible social and economic effect. The laureates also shared their view on the development of Russian and global energy innovations. Young generation of scientists was represented by the winners of All-Russian contest the “Energy of Youth”.
Today, on June 17th, the GEP laureates - Professor of University of California in Santa Barbara, the 2014 Nobel Prize laureate in Physics Shuji Nakamura and Distinguished Professor of North Carolina University Jayant Baliga - met with the leaders and specialists of construction bureau of the OSJC “Power machines”.
Today, on June 16th, the scientific symposium “Energy of thought” has opened the “Global Energy” laureate’s week. It took place at the Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University LETI.
The 13th solemn Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony will be held exactly in two weeks, on June 19th. Professor Shuji Nakamura and Professor Jayant Baliga, who are being recognized this year, have made revolutionary inventions that were commercialized and have helped the whole humankind achieve an incredible economic effect. The 2015 laureates will be awarded by the President of Russia and will get an endowment sum of $ 33 mln.

The Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony will take place on the 19th June 2015 at 13-00 in the Pavilion 7A, Conference Hall 7.1. The prize is awarded by the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
The 2015 Global Energy Prize laureates – Shuji Nakamura and Jayant Baliga – will be speaking before journalists of St. Petersburg for the first time two days prior to the GEP Award Ceremony. Russian young scientists – the winners of the “Energy of Youth” All-Russian contest – will be performing as well.
