The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

1 million rubles for innovation in the energy sector: the application period for “The Energy of Breakthrough” is about to open

On February, 1 the “Global Energy”, Non-profit Partnership announces the beginning of application period for the II All-Russian competition of youth implemented innovative projects in the field of energy “The Energy of Breakthrough”. Young scientists, students, post-graduate students of higher educational and research institutions as well as experts from specialized organizations under 35 years of age from all regions of Russia can participate in the contest. The deadline for the application period is April, 1. The winner will receive a personal award of RUB 1 mln.

According to the President of “Global Energy”, Non-profit partnership Igor Lobovsky, “Russia is rich in talented young scientists and specialists in the field of energy, and the purpose of the Partnership and, in particular, “The Energy of Breakthrough” is to support them and give impetus to further development of their projects. In addition to the monetary award, this competition is a great opportunity for them to present themselves and share their successful time-tested projects.”

As a recall, the All-Russian competition of implemented innovative projects in the field of energy “The Energy of Breakthrough” was established by the “Global Energy”, Non-profit partnership in 2014. Innovators from 16 regions of Russia have competed in it. They presented their projects in almost all areas of energy to the judgment of independent experts. The majority of works was devoted to renewable energy (37%) and electric power (26%). The researcher from Physical-Technical Institute named after Ioffe Dmitry Malevsky (from Saint Petersburg) became the first winner.

He invented a measuring complex for testing the solar panels, which includes sunlight simulator (the journalists have called it “the artificial sun”) and special software. Device examines a number of battery`s parameters before its launch into maintenance: current, voltage, maximum power, and the radiation level at the surface. As a result all the shortcomings can be eliminated in advance and it is also possible to calculate the battery lifetime. The measuring complexes of Malevsky have been successfully introduced into Roscosmos enterprises for pre-flight testing of space solar cells that are being sent into the orbit later. These complexes are also used for terrestrial systems testing in Russia, the USA, Italy and Germany.

Dmitry Malevsky noted, that he believed in his victory from the beginning and was sincerely happy for high esteem of his work.

To participate in the competition “The Energy of Breakthrough” young innovators must apply online on the Global Energy Prize web-site, within the “Our programs” / “The Energy of Breakthrough” section /ru/our-projects/the-energy-of -breakthrough.

The competition is unanimous: independent Russian and international experts examine the works without knowing the names and places of work or study of participants. After the evaluation, the Partnership will announce the winner on the Global Energy Prize website /ru on May, 1.
