The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

The main event of the Global Energy Prize is due in three weeks!

The 14th solemn Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony for the 2016 Global Energy Prize laureate, Academician Valentin Parmon will be held exactly in three weeks, on June 17th.  He is being recognized for a breakthrough development of new catalysts in the area of petroleum refining and the renewable sources of energy as a principal contribution into the energy of the future. Siberian researcher will be awarded by the President of Russia and will get an endowment sum of RUB 39 million. 

Traditionally within the Global Energy Prize laureates` week and prior to the Award Ceremony, the “Global Energy”, Non-profit Partnership holds a number of events for the Global Energy Prize laureates, young scientists and leading energy experts.

Exiting circle of events will be open on June 14th with the press conference on “Innovations in energy-efficiency and energy saving in Russia”.  It will be held in TASS press center. Valentin Parmon will present before the Saint Petersburg journalists for the first time and will share his innovations in the area of catalysis and chemical methods of energy conversion the implementation  of which have brought enormous economic benefits. The winners of the 2014 All-Russian contest of Youth scientific projects “The Energy of Youth” – young scientists from 3 regions of Russia- will also participate in the press conference. They will share the results of their projects within “The Energy of Youth” grant.

In addition, within “The Energy of Knowledge” program, on June 14th Valentin Parmon will tell about his achievements to the students of the Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University LETI named after V. Ulianov (Lenin).

Annual scientific symposium “The Energy of Thought” that will take place on June 15th at power engineering company OJSC “Power Machines”. This year it will bring together representatives of different scientific generations with the specialists of engineering and technical services of the company. The 2016 Global Energy Prize laureate Valentin Parmon will be the keynote speaker at the symposium and the 2014 “Energy of Youth” winners – at the subsequent roundtable. Although young scientists make only the first steps in science, their works open new opportunities in the energy sector, and have great practical application. Next, the engineers of OJSC “Power Machines” will share experience of their company, which is the largest manufacturer of equipment for power generation.

The third day of the laureates` week, 16th of June, will be intense. Important events will be held within several platforms. The press conference on “The global 21 century energy trends” will be held at press center of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The Global Energy Prize laureates and members of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee will tell about the innovative projects and scientific research in the energy field as well as will assess the global energy trends and forecast the way of their development in 2016.

At the same time, the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University will host the youth day of the Global Energy Prize. The winners of the youth programs, “The Energy of Youth” and “The Energy of Start” will be in the center of attention. Young scientists will talk about their projects for which they were granted with RUB 3 million and will share how the money affected the continuation of their research. The winners of the All-Russian contest “The Energy of Start”, aimed at formation of the students` conscious choice of future profession, will be awarded with prizes. Recall, they offered the best strategy of Russia`s fuel and energy complex development up to 2035 within the Case-solving Championship. Next, Ilya Kolmanovskii, the well-known popularizer of science, head of the Laboratory of Biology of the Polytechnic Museum, will perform before the audience. He will share his view on the following subject: effective promotion of a scientific startup.

On June 17th the solemn Global Energy Prize Gala Dinner for the laureate Valentin Parmon will be held as well as his Award Ceremony.

Note that from June 16th up to June 18th the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will run the Global Energy Prize stand. An active program of events is scheduled to be held on its site: meetings of the Global Energy Prize laureates with industry experts, young scientists, winners of “The Energy of Youth”, “The Energy of Start” and “The Energy of Words”, an open meeting of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee members, as well as signing of a number of partnership agreements.

The cycle of events of the Global Energy Prize Laureates` Week will end on June 18th which is  the last day of the SPIEF.
