The “Energy of Knowledge” at LETI

Today the 2016 Global Energy Prize laureate Valentin Parmon within the framework of the “Energy of Knowledge” program spoke with the students of the Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI".

The purpose of this program is to attract the attention of young audience to the issues of global energy and inspire them to research in this area. Example of Valentin Parmon is inspiring for the young generation of energy specialists: he is the author of many developments in the field of catalytic technologies: catalysts, developed under his leadership, in petroleum refining and renewable sources of energy make a principal contribution into the development of the energy of the future.

Valentin Parmon told about how they solve problems associated with getting high quality fuels from conventional hydrocarbons, he also presented interesting facts about the problem of oil-associated gases processing. He shared the developments of the Institute of Catalysis for the creation of clean coal boiler, which use the principle of catalytic combustion of fuels of different origin. He presented details on obtaining highly qualified fuels from renewable plant raw materials. And of course, he shared about the use of reversible thermochemical processes for direct conversion of highly efficient nuclear and concentrated solar energy into chemical energy. Recall that reversible processes are the chemical processes that go in both directions, depending on the temperature: with the energy storage and its release.
